Your basic German infantryman (landser) was armed with a 7.92 mm Kar. 98k rifle that was a Mauser bolt-action weapon with a five-round internal box magazine. His leather ammunition pouches held a total of 60 rounds. He was also equipped with a bayonet and an entrenching tool (folding shovel). High explosive stick grenades (stielhandgranate 24) were usually carried tucked into the belt by the wooden handle. If he could get his hands on a pistol, the landser kept it hidden.
